Hail the size of golf balls in Sturgis South Dakota

Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys®:  Bizarre Weather Makes for a Unique Sturgis Experience
We’ve been having a great time during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and rocking out at the Legendary Buffalo Chip in  Sturgis, SD all week with some of the greatest motorcyclists in the country. Yet for all of the incredible concerts, amazing motorcycles, and interesting food, it is the weather here in Sturgis that is gaining the most publicity!
The weather here in Sturgis is unique, to say the least! Storms roll in un-expectantly and then just as quickly roll out. It is hot one minute, can rain the next then cools down at night, and just when you think you’ve seen it all, here comes the hail—the size of golf balls! So why is the weather here in Sturgis so weird?

It all seems to be the cause of Chinooks. A Chinook is a downward wind where the Canadian Prairies and Great Plains meet various mountain ranges. Chinook winds have been known to raise temperatures and lower temperatures dramatically and South Dakota holds some of these amazing records. Rapid City, South Dakota in the Black Hills still holds the record for the fastest temperature drop ever recorded. In 1943, the temperature plummeted 47°F in 5 minutes from 60°F to 13°F!
South Dakota summers bring frequent and turbulent thunderstorms with high winds, thunder, hail, and even lightning. In the eastern part of the state lies Tornado Alley and the bizarre South Dakota weather brings an average of 30 tornadoes through this part of the state alone. It is safe to say that if you live in the Black Hills of South Dakota long enough, you’ll probably see it all!
Last night while watching the Jeff Bridges and Friends concert at the Buffalo Chip, strong winds came in and blew the backdrop off the stage while Stevie Nicks was performing.  Twenty minutes later it was over and John Fogerty went on and rocked the house.  This was all part of the Jeff Bridges and Friends night and I was amazed at Jeff Bridges performance – he was fantastic.  A great night topped off with an incredible performance by Fogerty
So while the live music, motorcycle runs, food, and festivities are certainly something to talk about, it may be the weather that takes prize this year at Sturgis.
