I started working for Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys® two years ago. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, actually marks my two year anniversary as my first day of employment consisted of getting on a plane for Rapid City, SD. Rapid City is the airport you fly into if flying to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally as opposed to riding your bike, which hard core bikers say is the only way to go to Sturgis. I have to admit that I am a Los Angeles city snob and was hesitant about going to Sturgis, SD but when I got there, not only was I taken by the areas incredible beauty but I was also taken by the friendliness of the motorcyclists. I am going back to Sturgis this year for the 70th anniversary celebration and I am looking forward to introducing a couple of newbies to the wonder that is the Black Hills – Sturgis area.
One of my favorite places to visit is Deadwood, SD. Prior to visiting the area my knowledge of Deadwood consisted of the HBO show of the same name. Deadwood is in the Black Hills of South Dakota and was a wild mining town in the 1800’s that attracted outlaws, gamblers and gunslingers. Wild Bill Hickok was killed in Deadwood and Calamity Jane buried here. Today Deadwood, with careful restoration, still looks like it did back in the gold rush days complete with casinos and taverns.
When the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally was winding down in 2008 part of the BAM team (Free Breakdown and Legal Assistance for Motorcyclists) took the day and drove to Mount Rushmore. This is a beautiful trip and a definite place to see if you are in the area. Along the way we drove through Custer State Park and saw Buffalo roaming the streets and donkeys approached traffic.
The pics above are of Dave and I at the Mount Rushmore, Buffalo roaming and Shawn being surprised by a visitor.
Spearfish, South Dakota is another great little town in the Sturgis area and is quite a bit calmer than Sturgis during the motorcycle rally. It is a quaint little town to walk around and has many campgrounds and things to do with the kids.
This years trip to Sturgis I won’t be a fixture on Main St, I will be at the legendary Buffalo Chip with Sturgis/BAM newbies Roz and Autumn. My money is on Roz becoming a new Sturgis legend. Stay tuned to find out why!
Newbies Autumn and Roz above. This will be their first year in Sturgis and first year at the Buffalo Chip.
