Motorcycle Musings – Nov 18, 2009

So as I sip my coffee this fine sunny morning in Los Angeles, CA, I sigh as I read the news from around the globe. The weather is cooling down quite a bit here in Los Angeles and getting much colder in other parts of the US but I am still reading about motorcycle accidents.
The first motorcycle accident I read about is near the motorcycle Mecca of Sturgis, SD. In Rapid City, SD a motorcycle accident happened at the intersection of S. Highway 16 and Enchantment Rd.  A Harley was smacked by an SUV. The driver of the SUV hit our biker brother,  Bert Fasthorse of Rapid City, SD, due to not seeing him as he pulled out onto the hwy. Thankfully his injuries are not life threatening but not a great way to start the holiday season.
In Mesa, Arizona a bicyclist was killed Wednesday morning after colliding with a motorcycle. The motorcycle had the green light and the bicycle came from an unknown direction. As a rider I hear a lot about cagers not looking out for us and we have to be aware of others on the road as well, though in this case the motorcycle driver is not at fault for this motorcycle accident.
Here in California, in Rancho Cucamonga a young man was killed when he drove a sportbike into the wall of a friends garage. He wasn’t wearing a helmet.
And in Jacksonville, Florida police have closed off the eastbound and westbound lanes of Atlantic Boulevard at Mayfair Boulevard in the St. Nicholas area for a motorcycle  accident that involved a retired motorcycle officer. The 60-year-old  Jacksonville, Florida officer, a 32-year veteran, was leading a funeral procession as a civilian when a 22-year-old woman turned in front of the procession.
Our thoughts go out to all of those who have been involved in a motorcycle accident or knows someone who has.
Working for motorcycle accident attorneys, I hear about motorcycle accidents all the time and it tugs at my heart every single time, even if they were the one who caused the motorcycle accident.
Alright, enough of that type of news…….
It wasn’t until I started looking for motorcycle news that I came across the “Motorcycle Bandits”.  Jermaine Tyrone Fuller of Ridge Springs, SC would rob the banks and escape on his motorcycle and pull into the back of a u-haul trailer and driven by his accomplice, Kelvin Shgeron Settles of McCormick, SC.
They would have probably gotten away with a few more armed robberies if it wasn’t for a curious lady with a digital camera that was curious about U-Haul moving truck with the back cab open and a driver in the front. She snapped the shots, heard about the robbery and viola, the cops knew how Fuller was getting away and caught him.
Would I find a U-haul moving truck with the back cab open curious? Unless it had a Starbucks in it, probably not.
