Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys®: Ride For Kids Aims to End Brain Cancer
Motorcyclists and families fighting childhood brain tumors across the nation have banded together to help raise funds for children suffering from brain tumors for many years. In 2012, riders managed to raise upwards of 3.8 million dollars towards the cause. Houston, Texas led the charge with resident Northwest Honda of Houston being the highest donating motorcycle business, donating a whopping $291,754. The highest total individual donor raised an incredible $81,413. Hard work by many businesses, charities and individuals added to the donations to roll up to the massive total.
The program, entitled “Ride For Kids”, began in 1984 and has since spread to 40 cities across the USA. In that time frame, the Ride has managed to raise millions of dollars to benefit children who have been diagnosed with brain tumors. The work that the motorcycle community has been doing towards ending brain tumors in children has not gone unrecognized either, as the Ride For Kids has gained a few national sponsors. National insurance giant Geico has joined as the national insurance sponsor, and most importantly, American Honda Motor Company has joined as the premier sponsor of the event since 1991.
Honda donates a Honda CBR1000RR with all the bells and whistles as a grand prize for the cause. This year master bike builder Gregg DesJardins has taken the Honda CBR1000RR and added his creative touch to create a beautiful motorcycle and a piece of art. Other contributors to this years motorcycle include Blue Cat (Roberto Serangeli), Performance Machine, Cycles 128, Bell Helmets, Leo Vince, Saddlemen, CRG and Dunlop. Blue Cat and Bell also donated a custom-painted helmet that is included in the drawing that people can buy tickets to at www.rideforkids.org. The motorcycle is on tour with the International Motorcycle Shows and can be seen at the upcoming shows in Chicago, Charlotte and Indianapolis.
This is a great cause, and if you are willing to participate, great prizes are up for grabs! Ride For Kids kicks off April 14th in Southern California and South Florida and will continue throughout the US until November 2013 where it will wrap up in the Tampa Bay area.
Get out and RIDE – especially for a great cause!
