Superstar author EL James confirmed on her official Twitter account on Monday that “Sons of Anarchy” heartthrob, Charlie Hunnam, had been secured for the role of Christian Grey for the upcoming film “50 Shades of Grey”.
Hunnam has taken the U.S. by storm in the past five years for his captivating portrayal of Jax Teller in the hit motorcycle club television series. European audiences are most acquainted with Hunnam from the original “Queer as Folk” series and co-staring with Anne Hathaway in “Nicholas Nickleby”.
SoA executive producer, Kurt Sutter, was immediately captivated by Hunnam after watching him in the hit series “Green Street Hooligans” and never considered anyone else for the role of Jax.
Starring opposite Hunnam in the role of Anastasia Steele will be Dakota Johnson who is the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson.
For more than a year fans have been speculating that the role of Grey would be going to either Ian Somerhalder of “Lost” or Matt Bomer of “White Collar”.
The social media platforms have been ablaze since the announcement was made and many that are unfamiliar with “Sons of Anarchy” have been very outspoken critics of Hunnam’s casting; the Englishman has remained composed during the public fallout and has been focused on the current production season of SoA whose new season begins on September 10th.
The tentative release date for the “50 Shades of Grey” film is August 1, 2014.
