Benghazi Heroes to be honored by Sturgis Buffalo Chip
Retired Navy SEAL, Tyrone Woods and former Navy SEAL, Glen Doherty will be honored by the Sturgis Buffalo Chip
on Thursday, August 8th
during the Chip’s 22nd
annual Freedom Celebration. Doherty and Woods showed extraordinary courage and heroism during the attacks on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, saving numerous other lives while sacrificing their own. Family members of both men will be on hand to accept the honors.
Tyrone’s wife, Dorothy Narvaez Woods and Glen’s brother, Greg Doherty, will accept the honors on behalf of each family. An Honor Guard, along with several decorated warriors will be in attendance as Captain Larry Bailey (SEAL), USN (Ret.), representing Special Operations Speaks, presides over the ceremony. “These heroic former soldiers gave their lives,” Sturgis Buffalo Chip president, Rod Woodruff said, “…and their courageous actions must not be forgotten.”
All veterans will be remembered at the Sturgis Rally at the American Veterans Traveling Tribute. There will be an 80% replica of the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial and other memorials to all those brave patriots who gave their lives in each of the wars and armed conflicts in which the United States has been involved. The memorials will be located in the Buffalo Chip’s Field of Flags. Access to this magnificent display of American flags and the memorials is free and open to the public.
Thursday night’s Freedom Celebration continues with a patriotic performance by Madison Rising. Their rock rendition of `The Star Spangled Banner’ will be punctuated by performances from country music sensation, Brantley Gilbert and the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The Freedom Celebration is just one event in the nine-day Sturgis rally. Festival-goers will be rocked all week by the likes of Kid Rock, Toby Keith, ZZ Top, The Doobie Brothers, Queensryche, The Cult, Tesla, Buck Cherry, Rob Zombie, Alien Ant Farm, Sublime with Rome, Fuel and Lit. All concerts are free with camping. Campground passes, which also grant guests admission to twenty-five bars, and all exhibits and events, may be purchased for portions of the festival or in its entirety. The 32nd annual Sturgis Buffalo Chip Motorcycle and Music Festival will be held July 29- August 11.
