The Sturgis Buffalo Chip Added to TORC Race Schedule
The Sturgis Buffalo Chip has played host to the world’s largest motorcycle gathering for over thirty years. Every year at the beginning of August, over 500,000 motorcycle enthusiasts converge on the small town of Sturgis, South Dakota for a week and a half of riding, entertainment, and camaraderie at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
The Buffalo Chip is known for its commitment to world-class entertainment, including a music festival headlined by some of the music industry’s biggest names. Now it continues that legendary commitment with exciting news about an addition to its already action packed event calendar starting in 2014.
TORC: The Off-Road Championship and The Sturgis Buffalo Chip announced a multi-year agreement to bring the adrenaline-packed action of TORC Racing to Sturgis. In preparation for this, The Buffalo Chip Powersports Complex will add a new racetrack for the series to showcase all the true capabilities of 900 horsepower race trucks, including racing side-by-side at speeds in excess of 100 mph and jumping over 200 feet into the air.
The Powersports Complex sits on a hillside allowing for incredible spectator viewing and adds elevation changes that will make for a unique and exciting track design guaranteed to challenge racers and delight fans.
“TORC’s vision and approach to the sport of off road racing is of the highest caliber,” says Sturgis Buffalo Chip President Rod Woodruff. “For over thirty years, the Sturgis Buffalo Chip has been committed to providing our fans with the best entertainment and we are thrilled to add TORC Racing into our schedule of events.”
BJ Birtwell, President of the TORC Series thanked the management team at The Chip and proclaimed the new partnership to be a “game changer” for the sport of off-road racing, including its sponsors, teams and drivers. He added, “Considering the hundreds of thousands of Sturgis attendees who love the open road and horsepower, adding The Chip to our schedule exponentially increases TORC’s attendance footprint providing a much broader reach for our Series and a greater return on investment for all those involved in TORC.”
Official 2014 race dates at The Chip will be announced soon and can be anticipated for early August when the 74th Annual Rally rolls into Sturgis, South Dakota.
